Announcing: Adventures of Purpose & Wonder

In uncertain times, many of us look for grounding in our core values. That’s part of what inspired me to write Adventures of Purpose & Wonder, a book where history, culture, values, and humanity meet—sometimes unexpectedly, sometimes quietly, but always with room for reflection. It’s the kind of book that can spark lively conversations, whether in a book club or over coffee with a friend.

The idea for this book started in Mexico, where I was teaching English. I found myself with unexpected free time—mobility challenges made it harder to explore the surrounding areas as much as I’d hoped. A friend encouraged me to revisit my dream of writing a book some day, and I thought, “Why not give it a try?”

As I wrote, a pattern emerged: adventure, purpose and wonder. These themes didn’t offer easy answers to big questions, but they opened doors to deeper thinking. As I wrote the stories, they present fresh perspectives, and offer possibilities for further consideration.

Readers of this blog may remember my pivotal decision to retire into the US. Peace Corps. That choice brought unexpected experiences, but it also reminded me how ordinary things—like making Borscht or celebrating New Years with a Ukrainian family can hold deeper meaning if we pause to notice.

As I developed the book, I expanded on these stories and added others:

  • Discovering how the light comes in during a church service
  • Marching for women’s rights at the 2017 Women’s March,
  • Learning about wisdom from the Lakota people
  • Embracing the culture of the Crimea Tatar history
  • Partaking of mystery in Mexico’s Day of the Dead.

All of the stories invite questions, exploration, and reflection on the values that connect us as human beings. In a divided and uncertain world, I hope this book offers ways to find meaning in what matters most, gathers strength from the experiences of others, and becomes a reminder of all the simple wonders that surrounds us—even in hard times. .

So here’s the heart of it: if you’re wondering how to inspire more purpose in life, seeking a nudge towards adventure, or looking to see the wonder in everyday moments, don’t hesitate. Adventures of Purpose & Wonder could just be the conversation starter you’re looking for.

You can find the e-book copy for Kindle or any digital device as well as a Paper-back edition for your coffee table on https://www.amazon.com/
